Math and Science
Mathematics: From simple to complex, from concrete to abstractConcrete Montessori materials in the classroom symbolize mathematical abstractions, which can be challenging for young children to comprehend. Through the use and manipulation of such materials, the transition from concrete to abstract is greatly simplified. The Montessori curriculum introduces the four basic mathematical operations:
• Addition • Subtraction • Multiplication • Division |
Science: Hands-on Learning through discovery Without rudimentary scientific knowledge, it is impossible to grasp an understanding of virtually any phenomenon in the natural world. At Montessori Classics, the scientific curriculum is highly interactive and extensive, and includes, but is not limited to, the following streams of science:
• General Science (many hands-on experiments) • Anatomy • Zoology (includes observation of live animals) • Botany (including gardening) • Astronomy |
